Today's run was easier than yesterday. The humidity percentage dropped from 84% to 56%, and it made all the difference. Here's a photo from today's 5 miler. Check out that blue sky and clouds.
I am so happy I live here. I've seen pictures of snow already from northern friends. Burrr! Here in semi-tropic Florida, we're entering the best weather of the year. If you live somewhere cold, check out all the races in the Tampa Bay area. We do great racecations around here. In fact, I'm working on a racecation guide. I'll post it in the next week or two. Waiting to Wear Long SleevesMy beautiful sweat-wicking, lightweight, long-sleeve #RunnerOfSteel Pittsburgh Marathon In Training shirt arrived at the start of October. And I haven't had a chance to wear it on a run yet. (Still hitting high 80s here in Florida.) Sure, I've worn it around the house in the air conditioning, but that's not the same, is it? I'm thinking the first time I wear it outside will be while we're in Pittsburgh next month. Here's a picture so you can admire it with me. It's a Brooks #RunHappy shirt. It's Black and Gold. It looks fast. I'm excited about running the half marathon next May in my hometown. I'm also terrified of running the hills since I'm used to the flat lands of Florida. But, it's all about the challenge, right?
Pittsburgh Magazine's List of the Most Enjoyable Parts of the Pittsburgh MarathonLast April in honor of the 10th running of the race, Pittsburgh Magazine described the 10 most enjoyable parts of the Pittsburgh Marathon. Read the article to see what you can expect to see during the race. Also — do you see those hills? I'll be running the half with my daughter next May. Until then I'll be training on every hill I can find here in Florida! #RunnerofSteel #RunPittsburgh #PittsburghMarathon #PittsburghHalf #ThisOldRunner #10YearsRunning #SteelCityRunners
In October We Race in PinkSome of my favorite races raise money in support of a cause. It's pretty obvious if you look at my schedule. My next 5 races are for rescue pups, K9 officers, a nature preserve, a charter school, Make a Wish, and mental health and the homeless. Each year when October rolls around there are plenty of walks and runs in support of breast cancer research. This year I picked a race I'd never run before. I'm so glad I did. Sunday morning I ran in pink with a bunch of other people in the Pretty in Pink 5K put on by Premier Racing Institute. It was my first race with this organization. Even better, it was my first time on the Ream Wilson Trail in Clearwater. This trail is awesome. Lots of BIG shade trees. I'll be back to workout on the overpass bridges. Del Oro Park (start/finish line) has basketball and tennis courts and a shady playground. Pretty in Pink Shirts and BibsThe race shirt made me unexpectedly happy. There are caricatures of Duckie and Andie from the 1986 movie Pretty in Pink on it. Past images from the race included a Pink Panther figure. Maybe they do a movie theme each year, I'm not sure. I'm just glad I scored this shirt. It's a clean, fun graphic. Kudos to the designer. The matching bibs were well done, too. Why I Enjoyed This Race
I found more hills, gorgeous old oak trees, bikers, and dog walkers. The trail winds through parks with tennis courts and disc golf. There are bridges and ponds. There are trails in the shade. It has some elevation. You can run 5-10-15 mile routes on the trail from here. I walked another 50 minutes on the trails after my race. I saw runners finishing the 10K, bikers zipping down hills, and softball players competing. By the time I returned to the finish line everyone was leaving. Pretty in Pink Race Details
