My New Hydration Helper: Hidrate Spark 3

9/10/2019

Isn't It Gorgeous?!

When Hidrate asked me if I'd like to test the Hidrate Spark 3 I said, YES!

They sent me this beautiful hot pink bottle. Now, I'm ready to see if I'm as good at hydrating as I think I am.

This bottle is for cold liquids. For me, that means lots of water and electrolytes.

My first impression? I love the soft grip exterior of this bottle. It feels luxurious.

What's In The Box?

The Hidrate Spark 3 bottle comes with a battery and finger loop. The main body arrives assembled. It has a removable lid, glow sensor stick, and base compartment where the battery goes. There's also an instruction booklet and a customer service contact card.

Step 1: Put in the Battery

Unscrew the bottom of the bottle. Read and follow the battery insertion directions. Be gentle when unscrewing and screwing the bottom on the bottle. You don't want to strip the screw.

Be careful to match the positive and negative symbols on the battery to the bottom of the sensor insert.

Once the battery is in place, the sensor will glow. I'm not sure why, but it made me smile. That's your signal that it's okay to reassemble the bottle.

Step 2: Attach the Finger Loop

Slip the finger loop under the metal pin on the back of the lid. Pull the cushioned part through loop and pull to tighten. You're ready use the finger loop to carry your bottle.

Step 3: Download the App

Yep, there's an app for that. If you have family members who love an app, but hate to be nagged about drinking more water — consider the Hidrate Spark 3. I'm eyeing a more masculine version (not hot pink) for a certain member of my family.

There's something appealing about the bottle glowing as a reminder — maybe 'cause it isn't your spouse saying, "drink more water" ?

Step 4: Connect and Configure the App

The app connects your phone to your Hidrate Spark with Bluetooth. It's super easy.

The app takes you through setup with a series of screens: Create an account, sync to your bottle, adjust settings to match your preferences. It only took a few minutes.

Once your app is ready you'll calibrate the bottle and sensor by emptying and filling the bottle. Again, super easy directions and illustrations on screen.

Step 5: Take a Drink and Bask in the Glow

Set the bottle on a flat surface after you drink. This allows the sensor to read and record how much liquid you drank. The app tracks your progress throughout the day. Each time you drink, it adds your intake to the daily total.

Each time you refill your bottle it will glow with approval. How cool is that?

Enjoy the Reminders, and Drink Up!

If you slack on your fluids, you'll hear from the app! Expect a funny message to remind you it's time to hydrate.

My Results After 12 Hours

I used my bottle from 9 am to 9 pm today. My day included a 4-miler and lots of desk time.

So, it was pretty easy to remember to drink.

I'm pleased with my results. I drank 95 ounces of water, which exceeded my hydration goal of 82 oz. by 15%.

I can't wait to see how I do for a whole week.

I'll be back with more results and thoughts after I spend more time using the bottle.

BOTTOM LINE:
Life is busy and distracting. We can all use a reminder to drink our water. There are real health benefits — physical, emotional, and mental — to being hydrated.
