It's official: May is too early for the City of Pittsburgh to host the beloved Pittsburgh Marathon. DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon announced yesterday (Jan. 28) that the City of Pittsburgh can't grant a permit for the weekend of racing events planned for May 1-2, 2021. Race management and the City worked closely for months to develop plans to keep runners, volunteers, and spectators safe. But ultimately, it was determined that the size of the event, along with participants and spectators from all over the world made it impossible. Pittsburgh Marathon 2021 Virtual Event Registration Opens Feb. 1, 2021 at NoonIf you registered for a 2021 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend event, you'll get an email from race management on Monday, February 1, 2021 with details regarding your options to race virtually or request a refund. If you want to run a virtual event, registration reopens on February 1, 2021, at NOON ET. I'm in for this one. I'm going to run the half marathon again. It's a good benchmark + motivator that fits nicely into my year-long training plan to run a marathon in January 2022. And now that it's virtual, I can run it without traveling! #MovePittsburgh #PittsburghMarathon #PittsburghHalf #HoorayRunning #BibChat #VirtualRaces #PittsburghMaraBR #4RUN2 #SteelCityRunners #P3R
