New Amphipod Chiller is Made for Summer Runs
I've been testing Amphipod's newest handheld water bottle for a month. It's Summer and it's Florida — so it's been a thorough test. I've used it on long and short runs, lots of walks, and even while working in the yard. The Hydraform Chiller™ has an insulated ice wall to keep drinks cool. The bottle's ergonomic design includes an adjustable hand strap that keeps the bottle close without having to maintain a tight grip. The locking leak-proof cap keeps liquids safe between sips. Keep reading to learn more and see how it performed for me. Disclaimer: I received an Amphipod Hydraform Chiller™ to review as part of being a BibRave Ambassador. But, you don't want to lug around a heavy water bottle. It's time to check out the Amphipod Hydraform Chiller™. This handheld is made for people who want to keep their water or electrolytes at hand during workouts. The ergonomic design is lightweight and curved to fit the palm of your hand. There's an adjustable hand strap that loops around your thumb and makes the bottle comfy to carry. No one I know wants to drink tepid or warm water during a run. That's why Amphipod added an insulated ice wall inside the sleeve that fits around the bottle. The freezable sections and triple insulated sleeve keep your beverage cooler for longer. Yes, this bottle is made for running, but I used it for everything. I'm happy to report it worked well in a variety of situations. (Images credit: ThisOldRunner) What If You Live in a Tropical Climate? My Experience with Amphipod Hydraform Chiller™The bottle directions from Amphipod advise:
Before using, I fill my bottle 3/4 full of electrolytes and put the bottle and sleeve in the freezer overnight. Why? Because it's hotter in Florida than a lot of other places, and I always freeze my running bottles that way. As you can see from the photo below, it's part of my normal running routine. Before I head out the door, I add enough liquid to fill my Amphipod and carefully screw on the lid. The Insulated Sleeve is a Game-ChangerThe most beautiful thing about Amphipod Hydraform Chiller is the sleeve. Why?
Extra TipsLike any new gear, I learned a few extra things during my field tests. Here are some tips for you. How to Clean Your Amphipod Hydraform Chiller™I like to rinse everything off when I finish a run. This reduces dirt and stickyness inside and outside the bottle and insulation sleeve. The plastic bottle is top-rack dishwasher safe. It's best to put the cap (spout fully extended) in the silverware bin so you don't lose it. DO NOT put the sleeve in your dishwasher. Rinse or wipe off the exterior of the sleeve with a non-abrasive wet cloth. Use a drop of dish liquid if needed. Make sure you rinse it thoroughly so there isn't any soap residue. Air dry the sleeve before putting it back on your bottle. Make sure it's completely dry before re-freezing. Final ThoughtsI enjoyed using the Amphipod Hydraform Chiller™ handheld. Cool drinks beat warm ones on a run every time. I tested the 12-ounce bottle and found it the perfect size and weight. If you often run longer distances, you may want to consider the 20-ounce bottle. I think a 20-ounce bottle would be perfect for hiking. The 12-ounce bottle is $30 and the 20-ounce bottle is $35. After a month of testing, I think they are worth the price. All in all, I recommend this bottle if you freeze it 3/4 full. The sleeve is an awesome addition that makes this bottle better than others I've used. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary jar of Save My Sole Foot Rescue Cream to review. Thoughts and opinions are mine. Save My Sole® Gives Runners' Happy FeetLike most runners, my feet take a beating. It seems like the first few weeks of every new training cycle results in dry skin and cracked heels. Lucky for me, Peak10Skin® sent me a sample of their Save My Sole® Foot Rescue Cream as I began my Gasparilla Distance Classic training last month. Keep reading to see how I've been using Save My Sole® to repair my feet. I've gotta say, I'm really (really!) happy with the results after just a few weeks. How I Use Save My Sole® Foot Rescue CreamStep 2: Exfoliate Dead Skin
The shea butter has lots of Vitamin E which helps to lock in moisture and hydration to repair skin. Other active ingredients are eucalyptus, menthol, and limonene. These ingredients offer anti-inflammatory benefits that help to soothe tired, sore feet. Reminder: Be gentle when exfoliating. If you scrub too hard you'll damage your skin. And, don't use a pumice stone every day. Once or twice a week is good. Step 3: Apply Save My Sole® Foot Rescue CreamMoisturize, moisturize, moisturize! When my feet are ready, I apply Save My Sole by massaging it into my feet with a circular motion. A massage always feels good and helps with circulation. I put Save My Sole® on my entire foot, including between my toes. Side note: the eucalyptus, limonene and menthol in the lotion make it smell so good. It was extra soothing to me during a recent sinus infection. Images: ThisOldRunner and iStock. Step 4: Wear Socks to Seal in the MoistureSeal in that Moisture! Once I've washed, exfoliated and massaged the cream into my feet, I slip into a pair of socks. This helps seal the moisture into my skin, and prevents me from leaving shea butter footprints all over the house. At night, I may keep the socks on overnight for maximum moisturizing. Doing this made a huge difference in just one application. Lately, I've been wearing holiday socks after moisturizing my feet! My RecommendationsThe directions on the jar suggest applying Save My Sole® Foot Repair Cream twice a day. If you can do that, go for it. I'm more consistent with a nighttime application since I can put on socks and relax afterwards. If I'm headed out for a run, I'll apply in the morning since I'll be wearing socks. I noticed improved skin right away, so I'm good now with once a day. Your choice will depend on the condition of your feet. Here's another tip! Don't stop at your feet. I've been putting Save My Sole® on my elbows and shins, too. It does a great job of moisturizing all my rough skin. A little goes a long way when you massage it in. (BTW, Peak10Skin® offers a hand and foot cream combo!) I am really happy with the results. My feet are happy, and my skin hasn't cracked as I add extra miles to my running routine. I definitely recommend this cream! SAVE 20% with Discount Code "RUNNER"Right now you can SAVE 20% on everything at Peak10Skin.com. #Peak10Skin #SaveMySole #FootRepairCream #DiscountCode #RunnerReview #HoorayRunning A month ago, I received these beautiful Puma Deviate Nitro running shoes. I fell in love with the color (Lava Blast!) immediately. Now, it's time to report on how the shoes performed for me. First, let me give you some shoe specs. Disclaimer: I received Puma Deviate Nitro shoes as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews Puma Deviate Nitro Shoe SpecsPuma designed this shoe for maximum cushion and improved efficiency on long runs. They focused on weight, airflow, cushioning, and traction. Here are the official specs:
My Results After 30 Days, 15 Runs and 72 MilesPuma says these shoes were designed with women's feet in mind. Per Puma, that means a narrowed heel, adjusted arch ratio and a lower instep. Those changes may not work for everyone, but they worked for me. I appreciate every consideration Puma made! I feel like these shoes were custom made for me. I took the Deviate Nitros out 15 times over 4 weeks. My runs varied from 2 to 10 miles. Most of the time, I ran for 4 or 5 miles. Keep reading to learn about my experience in these shoes.
NITRO FOAM Cushioning
Carbon Fiber Propulsion INNOPLATE
Suede Collar and Lockdown Lacing for Secure Fit Some people may not like the thin ankle collar. If you're used to extra padding on the back of your heel, this is different.
How My Shoes Look After 72 MilesAs you can see in the photos below, there's plenty of grip, cushion and color in my shoes after 72 miles. There's some wear on the stripe on the outside of my left shoe, and some dirt all over. It's purely cosmetic wear and tear at this point. I'm really impressed with the PUMA GRIP sole. Sometimes foam soles melt away after minimal miles. That didn't happen here. This shoe looks like it's going to go far. My Final Thoughts on Puma Deviate Nitro ShoesMy advice is to try these on in person. Make sure they're the right shoes for your feet before spending the money. They retail for $160 and that's not cheap, even if it is getting to be a common price point. So far, I think they're worth the price. My feet were happy in these shoes right away. The shoes are super light, comfy and secure. I didn't have any breaking in period. I didn't have any blisters or irritations. I wore them on every surface I could think of and they felt GOOD. Be open to the idea that a shoe can fit like a glove. The mesh upper is super comfy, flexible and accommodating. I love that my foot doesn't slip or slide. It's the perfect toe box for me, but it won't be right for everyone. If you're looking for a long-distance shoe that puts a bounce in your step — try Puma Deviate Nitro! I'm keeping this shoe in my rotation for all the miles. #NewShoeFeeling #RunPumaBR #PumaRunning #PumaBR #BibChat #RunPuma #BibRavePro #DeviateNitro #RunningShoeReview #HoorayRunning #ThisOldRunner #OptOutside #RunnersOfInstagram #WeRunSocial #EverySingleStreet #EverySinglePerson
One of the best parts of being a BibRave Pro is testing new-to-me products. Right now, I'm testing Science in Sport REGO Rapid Recovery powder. I've used sports specific fuels in the past while training and racing. But this is the first time I've used a post-workout recovery drink. I really (really!) like it, and I'll tell you why. It Tastes GoodI've been using the chocolate and strawberry. I mix the powder with water as instructed, and drink. It's smooth, not chalky, and no clumps! Honestly, a couple of times I've thought about mixing up a second shake. It tastes that good. I'm looking forward to tasting the vanilla flavor. I Feel Better, FasterI've used REGO for my long runs and intense workouts. If I run for more than an hour, workout in intense heat or do hill repeats/speed work, I drink REGO Rapid Recovery. I try to drink it within 30-60 minutes of finishing my workout. It's working well for me. I'm excited because I'm ramping up my training for a two-day triple challenge in early February. I've noticed less fatigue and less muscle soreness. Disclaimer: I received SiS REGO Rapid Recovery as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews It Mixes Easily. No ClumpingWe've all been there. You shake or stir a powder and it won't mix. I don't know how they do it, but REGO powder in the shaker with the grater insert mixes and blends so easy. I've done water first and added powder, and vice versa, and it always mixes completely with no clumps. I appreciate that. No one wants a ball of powder on their tongue in the middle of a drink. So good job on that Science in Sport! I Can Replenish and HydrateREGO Rapid Recovery is made with Soy protein. That makes me happy since I'm vegetarian. Carbs, vitamins, electrolytes, and minerals round out the ingredients. It's a total win for replenishing nutrients and hydrating post-workout. I try to mix up the makes and models of my running shoes, but somehow I never ran in Under Armour shoes until now. I just got to test drive the UA HOVR™ Sonics. I'm so glad I did. I think this shoe will become a regular resident in my closet. Keep reading to learn more about the shoe, and why I like it so much. Fresh Out of the BoxFirst, let's all take a minute to look at these beauties. I love the graphite color and the open mesh upper. The shoe has tons of cushion, but it's still sleek. It just looks fast, doesn't it? Disclaimer: I received UnderArmour HOVR Sonic shoes to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews There are two editions of the UA HOVR™ Sonic: Connected and Non-connected. My shoes were non-connected, which means they don't have a sensor to sync data to an app on my phone. I may try the connected version on my next pair. There are color options, too. Below are a few of the choices available. Color Options for the UA HOVR Sonic Shoe(Photo credit: Under Armour) The Fine DetailsThese shoes are light. They weigh 8 ounces/225 mg. The upper is made of very breathable mesh. There's ventilation on the top and sides. That's a huge selling point when you run in Florida in the Summer. 🙋♀️
50 Miles of Road and Trail TestingI've worn the UA HOVR™ Sonics for running trails and roads. I also spent a full Saturday walking around town in them. Happy feet all the way. I'm sold. 50 miles in and these shoes look and feel great on my feet. I did hill repeats in them this morning. I'm very happy with the way they respond. The UA HOVR™ Connected version links to the Map My Run app and gives you data on your runs. Cost is $110 for Connected; $100 for Non-connected. I hope this review helps you decide if you'd like to run in UA HOVR™ Sonics.
