Gopher Weedon Trail Run

It's another sold out race for the 7th Annual Gopher Weedon Trail Run 8K in St. Petersburg, FL. This race  is hosted by Friends of Weedon Island to raise money and awareness for Weedon Island Preserve.

I love everything about this race: fun volunteers, good cause, great location, and writing my finish time on a piece of paper and putting it into a coffee can at the end of the race.

The race begins on a paved path, then travels along sandy trails and boardwalks. Runners get a glimpse of Tampa Bay and up close views of the natural Florida habitats. I've seen raccoons, osprey, turtles, armadillos and more at the Preserve.

Here's my review of the 2016 Gopher Weedon Trail Run. The race is limited to 200 runners to protect the preserve. If you want to run next year, mark your calendar and register early.
