Three Local 5k Series are a Good Way to Stay Motivated during Summer in Florida.

Summer in Florida means it's time to double the SPF on your sunscreen, and find ways to keep training despite the higher temperatures.

If races help you focus, how about running a few 5Ks on the beach? (It's always cooler on the beach!) There are three nearby beach sunset series this summer: Madeira Beach, Pass-A-Grille and Sand Key.

Madeira Beach 5K ​Sunset Series

$65 for 3 race series

• Chip timed race.
• Packet pick up on site from 5:15-7:00 pm before each race.
• No age group awards for single races.
• Overall series awards for first in each age group male/female. Starting at 14 and under up to 75+. 
• Overall series awards given after last race in August.
• Post race party is across the street at Hooters in John’s Pass Village.

 

Parking options are marked in blue. John's Pass Park is free, the others cost money.

Free parking at John's Pass Park is first come, first served. There is paid parking at John's Pass Village, and a city lot north of the race start. Don't park illegally, or you'll be towed — and that's expensive, inconvenient and no fun.

​The Madeira Beach race series helps VIPwarriors.org.  "VIP Warriors is a Central Florida/Tampa Bay wounded veteran athletic organization that engages wounded veterans and their families of all branches and combat eras, in the participation of endurance sports. All levels of athletes are welcome. Veterans helping veterans through the healing process through the camaraderie is of training and competing in endurance sports, to include triathlons, cycling, marathons, mud run/obstacle courses."

Sunsets at Sand Key Park in Clearwater, FL

If you live north of St. Petersburg, you may want to choose the 5k series hosted by the West Florida Y Runners Club at Sand Key Park in Clearwater.

June 9, June 23, July 14 and August 11.
Kids Fun Run at 6:45 pm is FREE
5K race at 7:00pm

Chip-timed 5K beach races.
Free Kids Fun Run at 6:30 pm.

6:30 pm before the 5K race.
All kids run participants receive

Historic Pass-A-Grille Beach

Packet Pick Up:
Wed., 5:00pm – 7:00pm at St. Pete Running Company
Thurs., 11:00am – 7:00pm at St. Pete Running Company
5:00-7:00 pm at race. Registration available on site on race day.

Post Race Party: For all participants includes a free buffet from the Hurricane Restaurant, adult beverages (with proper I.D.), soda, water, live DJ and a spectacular sunset. St. Pete Running Company gift certificate awards at every race for Top 3 overall male/female; top three in age group, 14 and under, 15-19 and five year increments to 70+.

Directions: North or south I-275 go west to exit 54th Ave S Route 682 (Pinellas Bayway) to Gulf Boulevard and south to Pass-A-Grille on 9th Avenue and Gulf Way. Plentiful metered parking available.
