Energy Bites for Workouts and RacesI'm reporting in on Food Groove Mission's superfood bites. I get to test them as part of being a BibRave Pro. It's year two for me as a BRP, and I'm very happy about that! I'm also very happy about these superfood bites. I received a box of three flavors:
I thought I would have a favorite, but I like all three. The Holy Truffle Punch tastes like dessert. Mother Earth and Nutty Adventurer are less sweet, but equally delicious. Organic medjool dates are the first ingredient in all three. I love dates! How I Used Food Groove Mission BitesFull disclosure: Day one, I opened the box and ate a whole bag of Holy Truffle Punch bites for lunch. I'm really not sorry about that. They tasted great and are full of nutrients. Next, I settled into a routine. I ate half a bag before my long runs, then finished it as a post workout snack. The bites are just the right size. Eat 5 and you feel satiated, but not full. After a run, the remaining bites are a nice protein boost. It also kept me from eating something less healthy post-run. Fuel for the Best Damn Race Half MarathonA couple of Saturdays ago I ran the Best Damn Race Safety Harbor half marathon. It was my first half in almost a year. It was important to have steady fuel throughout the race. I like gels for a quick burst of energy, but I wanted to try Food Groove Mission bites on race day. I knew they were easy on my stomach from training. My race shorts have lots o' pockets, so transportation wasn't an issue. My only concern was if it would be easy to swallow the bites while running. Sometimes I freak myself out thinking I can't drink or swallow when I'm breathing hard. You've heard of the water choke at aid stations, right? On race morning I ate half a bag of Mother Earth before the race. I made a mental note to fuel when I reached mile 5 and 10. It was a warm, humid morning, so I got water and Gatorade at the aid stations. The superfood bites worked great for me. I wasn't hungry, but I ate a couple at mile 5 to refuel. Swallowing was easy. Chewed the bite, and drank a sip of water after. I was fine. No coughing or choking. Ditto at mile 10. I felt good at the finish. Fuel for Discover Caladesi Beach/Trail 10 Miler
